Save Time and Money when Moving Furniture

Posted on 22/08/2014

When you are moving house there are so many hidden costs that you will always be looking for ways to make things cheaper and more efficient. The nature of the task is very boring, so taking as little time as possible is of the utmost importance as well. Moving your furniture is one of the most important as well as the hardest parts of your house move, so if you can save time and money when moving furniture then you will be in much better stead for the rest of the move. The natural way to do the move will be to enlist a removals company who are well trained in the art of moving large pieces of furniture. The experience that comes with years in the removals industry is vital to any move, as we normal people have no idea what we are doing, and tend to just ‘have a go’, not knowing what the consequences could realistically be. If you are not in a position to pay for a removals service, or your move is too small to make such a service worthwhile, then you may need some handy tips on moving your furniture cheaply and quickly.

To start with, you will need some strong friends. No matter whether you are an iron man, it is not going to be possible for you to safely get a sofa down a flight of stairs by your self. Ask around the family to see if anyone is willing to help out, but make sure that who ever you have along to help is capable of doing the lifting, as injury comes easily to those who are not prepared or strong enough!

If you know any students who are looking for a quick bit of cash, it may be useful to pay them a low wage to help you out, as it will be cheaper than getting the professionals in, as well as being helpful for your friends. If you cannot afford to pay a few people to help, then it may be a case of getting your mates round to help, and then taking them to the pub for a couple of drinks, or cooking them a meal as a thank you, in the knowledge that you will do the same for them if they ever need it. Using free or cheap man power is the best way to make the move less expensive, but with low cost, comes low experience and skill, so you must watch out for things to avoid when you are moving your furniture.

Look online for safety tips as to how to get things done without anyone being injured, and you will find a great many ways in which to perform each lifting task with the utmost safety and respect for your own body. Bending your knees rather than your back is the well known start point for lifting things safely, as well as taking things slowly, and not being afraid to ask someone to help you. Overloading yourself will never make things quicker, and may well lead to severe problems, even if the initial pain is not so great. This is the kind of thing that will stop a potentially enjoyable afternoon of getting things done in to a bitter trip to the hospital.

If you feel like you have the wherewithal to get the job done under your own steam, then please feel free to do so. However, if you have a larger job to do, then a removals service is recommended.
